What Is Floating?
Float therapy provides a safe, isolated environment that gives the sensory/nervous system a break from external stimuli. This allows the body and brain to effortlessly ease into a deep state of natural relaxation.
In today’s society, we are faced with a constant barrage of deadlines, consumed with technology at nearly every waking moment, live hectic and overscheduled lifestyles, and are driven to always stay busy. We are sometimes faced with life changing traumas, or chronic pain that interferes with us enjoying our lives to the fullest. We all deserve that moment to reset our minds, rejuvenate our spirit, and fully relax and heal our body.
Invented by Dr. John C. Lilly, a neuroscientist and psychoanalyst, floating is a simple yet life-changing therapy that has been around for over 50 years.
Healing Water’s float pods are filled with around 200 gallons of skin temperature water and almost 1,000 pounds of magnesium sulfate (also known as Epsom salt). This wonderful combination allows you float to the surface naturally. The water in the pod is literally saltier than the water in the Dead Sea!
Unless you are an astronaut, floating is the closest you will ever get to zero gravity. Known as sensory deprivation or Restricted Environmental Stimulation Therapy (R.E.S.T.), floating restricts outside stimuli such as noise and light, and because the water is exactly your skin temperature, you won’t know what part of your body is on top of the water or below. Ideally, the lid is closed on the pod with the room and pod light turned off, but you have complete control over your environment. You may want to leave the pod lid open, or leave the light on.
There’s more to floating that meets the eye.
